Photograms
Because photograms are created using darkroom technology they are technically categorised as photographs and not prints. However exposing drawings on acetate directly onto photographic paper is extremely similar to printmaking in process (also called Cliché Vert). To date I have used the darkroom to progress my ideas. I can produce a sequence of images very quickly and experiment without getting bogged down in process.
One of my current lines of enquiry is the subject of repeated images I seek to explore and express repetitive tasks. The fading hairbrush image seeks to show the movement made when brushing hair, a task that, with two girls to look after, occurs at least four times a day. The marks of this drawing are delicate and sensitive and like the paint the image gradually dissolves.
The scissor sequence tries to express the cutting motion made by scissors. I want to experiment with animating this motion so that the scissors gradually open and close in a continuous loop. Recently I have started to include real utensils within my images and these provide a contrast to the drawings of the same item. | |
